HIFUNSA is a South African focused-ultrasound platform centred on the introduction, education and responsible clinical application of advanced HIFU technology. Our focus is on bringing internationally developed focused ultrasound technology into a South African context through evidence, education, technology and appropriate clinical application.

WHO WE ARE

A SOUTH AFRICAN FOCUSED ULTRASOUND INITIATIVE

HIFUNSA exists to create a dedicated platform for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) technology in South Africa. The platform is centred around the JC300, a focused ultrasound therapeutic system developed by Chongqing Haifu Medical Technology Co., Ltd. OUR PURPOSE

WHY HIFUNSA EXISTS

Focused ultrasound represents a different approach to delivering a therapeutic effect: using concentrated acoustic energy to target tissue without requiring conventional surgical access to the target. HIFUNSA's purpose is to help make this technology understandable, accessible and responsibly implemented within the South African healthcare environment. THE TECHNOLOGY

THE JC300

At the centre of HIFUNSA is the JC300 Focused Ultrasound Tumor Therapeutic System. The system belongs to Haifu's established family of focused ultrasound therapeutic technologies. The JC300 combines: - Therapeutic ultrasound - - Imaging - - Target localisation - - Treatment planning - - Controlled energy delivery - - Treatment monitoring - The result is a technology platform designed around the principle of delivering focused ultrasound energy to a defined target region.

WHY SOUTH AFRICA?

BRINGING GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY INTO A SOUTH AFRICAN CONTEXT

HIFU is an established area of medical technology with decades of development and international clinical experience. Haifu reports that its HIFU systems have been deployed across 36 countries and regions, with more than 360,000 patients treated worldwide and more than 3,000 physicians trained. These are manufacturer-reported figures covering the broader Haifu HIFU technology portfolio, not JC300 alone. South Africa also has a documented history with Haifu technology, including the introduction of a JC200 system at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in 2015, reported by Haifu as the first such system in Africa. HIFUNSA represents the next stage of this technology story: From international HIFU development → to African clinical experience → to the next generation of focused ultrasound technology in South Africa.
